Is your behavior, or the behavior of someone close to you, threatening your well-being or the well-being of your family or relationship?
Have you looked at that behavior and come up with no rational reasons for what is going on? The answer may be Borderline Personality Disorder, also commonly known as BPD.
Below I’ve listed the traits attributed to BPD. If five or more of these nine criteria sound familiar, you may now know what you’re dealing with. BPD can be successfully treated with Dialectical or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have extensive training and experience in dealing with this disorder, helping people to recover and lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
- Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment.
- Relationships that are intense, unstable, and alternate between the extremes of over-idealizing and undervaluing people.
- A significant and persistently unstable image or sense of self.
- Engaging in two or more self-damaging acts such as excessive spending, inappropriate sexual conduct, excessive alcohol or drug use, smoking cigarettes, reckless driving, excessive gambling, and binge eating.
- Engaging in recurrent suicidal behaviors, gestures, threats, or self-injurious behavior.
- Moods that change very quickly, and frequent intense episodes of sadness, irritability, anxiety or panic attacks.
- Chronic feelings of emptiness and boredom.
- Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger.
- Preoccupation about what others think, or suspicious or paranoid thoughts.
